The 38/40 is a handloader’s nightmare, particularly with very light bullets. With smokeless powder and 140 grain bullets, my best loads generate about 40-fps standard deviation, providing the gun is handled carefully, keeping powder in the same position for each shot. If powder position is not controlled, standard deviation exceeds 100-fps.
